What is Exercise Physiology?
Exercise Physiology is all about using movement as medicine.
An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a university-trained health professional who specialises in helping people manage their health through safe, personalised exercise programs. It’s not just about fitness, it’s about helping your body work better, especially if you’re dealing with:
A chronic condition (like diabetes, parkinsons, heart disease, arthritis, or osteoporosis)
Injury recovery or rehabilitation
Mental health challenges (like depression, PTSD or anxiety)
Post-surgery support or mobility issues
Age-related changes, fatigue, or balance problems
Our Clinical Exercise Physiologists design programs that are tailored to you based on your health needs, goals, and comfort level.
We work closely with your GP or healthcare team if needed, and every session is built around what’s safe and achievable for your body.
Whether you’re starting fresh, returning from injury, or managing a long-term condition, Exercise Physiology gives you the tools to move better, feel stronger, and live more confidently.
Exercise Physiology with Medicare
If you’re managing a chronic health condition, you might be able to access Exercise Physiology sessions through Medicare under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan—also known as an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referral.
What is a CDM Plan?
A CDM Plan is created by your GP for people with a chronic medical condition (lasting 6 months or more). It gives you access to up to 5 subsidised sessions per year with qualified allied health professionals—like our Accredited Exercise Physiologists here at Fresh Start Club.
These sessions are designed to support long-term health and are tailored to help you move safely and confidently.
Common Conditions We Support:
Diabetes (Type 1 & Type 2)
Osteoarthritis or osteoporosis
Heart disease or high blood pressure
Chronic pain or injuries
Mental health (linked to a chronic condition)
Obesity or fatigue-related conditions
Parkinsons
How It Works:
Speak to your GP – Ask if you’re eligible for a Chronic Disease Management Plan.
Get a referral – Your doctor will provide paperwork and a referral to Exercise Physiology.

Using Private Health Insurance for Exercise Physiology
Did you know you may be able to claim a rebate for Exercise Physiology through your private health insurance?
Many Australian health funds provide cover for Exercise Physiology under Extras policies, especially those that include preventative or allied health services.
At Fresh Start Club, our Exercise Physiology sessions are delivered by Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs)—so they’re eligible for claiming with most major funds.
How It Works:
Check with your health fund to see if Exercise Physiology is included in your policy.
Book a session with one of our AEPs (no referral needed for private health claims).
Pay for your session and receive an invoice with the provider details you need to claim.
Submit your claim through your fund’s app or online portal.
Rebate amounts vary depending on your fund and level of cover.
