Rebuild strength. Bring the kid(s). Feel like yourself again.

Postnatal strength class led by Women's Health Physiotherapist Erin Gleadell, where babies and toddlers are always welcome.

Becoming a mum changes everything, including what your body needs from exercise. Whether you're a few months postpartum or heading into your second year, this is movement that's been designed for you - not adapted from a generic gym class , makes all the difference. A class built around the postnatal body, using free weights, kettlebells, and matwork to rebuild functional strength from the ground up.

Erin brings her physiotherapy credentials into every session, which means the movements are chosen deliberately, to support your pelvic floor and build a body that keeps up with the demands of motherhood.

Bring your baby or toddler. They're not a problem to manage here, they're welcome.

Erin is a physiotherapist with a passion for helping people move, build confidence, and make real progress. Her approach is family-centred and practical - she works closely with the (little) people around her clients meeting you where you're at and helping you build strength that fits into your life.

What to expect

Walking into a new class can feel daunting, so here's what a Thursday morning looks like.

You'll arrive at our Group Training Space in Kensington and get set up with your equipment. Babies and toddlers come with you, on a mat beside you, in a carrier, wherever they're happiest. Erin checks in with everyone at the start of class and adjusts movements to where each person is in their recovery.

The 45-minute session moves through free weights, kettlebell work, and matwork.

After class, there's usually time to connect with the other mums, ask Erin questions, or just take a breath before heading out. We’re lucky that we’ve also got two fantastic cafes right next door.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start after giving birth?
Generally, we recommend waiting until at least 6 weeks postpartum after a vaginal birth, and 8–12 weeks after a C-section - but this varies depending on your individual recovery. Always check with your GP or midwife first. When you're ready, Erin will check in with you in your first session and adjust accordingly.

I had a C-section — is this class right for me?
Yes, with the right timing and guidance. Erin will modify movements to protect your scar tissue and support safe abdominal reconnection. Just let her know your birth history when you arrive.

Can I bring a toddler, not just a baby?
Absolutely. This class is designed for mums in the first two years postnatally, so toddlers are very much welcome alongside babies.

What if my baby or toddler gets unsettled during class?
Completely normal, completely fine. You can pause, tend to them, and rejoin when you're ready - no one is keeping score. The class is designed with this reality in mind.

What do I need to bring?
Yourself, your little one, a water bottle, and comfortable activewear. All equipment is provided.

Do I need previous strength training experience?
Not at all. This class is suitable for complete beginners through to those returning to training after a break.

How is this different from a regular gym class or group fitness session?
It's led by a Women's Health Physiotherapist - not a general fitness instructor - which means every exercise is selected with the postnatal body specifically in mind. Pelvic floor health, abdominal rehab, and postnatal movement principles are built into every session. Your baby or toddler is also welcome throughout, which isn't the case in standard group fitness classes.

What's the difference between this and the Mums & Bubs Reformer Pilates class?
The Reformer Pilates class uses the reformer machine and focuses on Pilates-based movement. Mat Strength uses free weights, kettlebells, and matwork to build functional strength. They complement each other well.
